Jökulsárlón is one of Iceland’s most striking scenes, as glacier Vatnajökull calves into a giant glacial lagoon. Icebergs bank up in the lagoon until they become small enough to make it down the river where they are pushed onto black sand beaches by the power of the ocean.
During summer Iceland experiences the ‘midnight sun’ in some parts of the country. This photograph was taken of sunset which was around 11:30pm. It doesn’t truly get dark however as the sun rises shortly after, barely dipping below the horizon.
